In Union, Remotely (virtual exhibition)

Not On View is a pastel on paper drawing that describes a small, wooden, Shaker table. The drawing recalls my earlier visit to an exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, where I saw the paper label below inside an empty plexiglass vitrine. “That’s the best museum label ever,” I thought.

Because In Union, Remotely was organized by the Shaker Museum as a virtual exhibition with no physical objects on display, I chose to submit this digital photograph of my drawing, “Not On View.” The workshop bench described by the drawing was in my Columbus, Ohio, studio. Visitors were welcome, but local health rules mandated social distancing and wearing a face-mask in publicly accessible venues.
