In 1870, The Ohio State University was founded as a public land-grant college for teaching "the agricultural, mechanical, and liberal arts." In 2005, Ann Hamilton with Michael Mercil began The Living Culture Initiative as a loosely organized cluster of cross-campus partnerships integrating a variety of contemporary arts disciplines into the core research framework of OSU.
